As a member of the National Defense Advisory Commission, former businessman Edward Reilly Stettinius, Jr. (1900-49) administered the Lend-Lease Program, under which the United States supplied the United Kingdom, Free France, the Republic of China, and later the Soviet Union and other Allied nations with food, oil, and material between 1941 and August 1945. Later, he served as Secretary of State under Presidents Roosevelt and Truman and as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles. Negligible bit of spotting along the top edge of the rear board. The dust jacket is lightly rubbed, with some neat (and unnecessary) brown paper reinforcement to the verso; otherwise very good.
