One of the earliest to explore the eastern shores of Mexico, Grijalva (c.1489-1527) was also the first Spaniard to encounter Moctezuma II's delegation. Bernal Diaz del Castillo wrote about Grijalva's travels in his book, The True History of the Conquest of New Spain (1576).
