"A detailed account in the form of a diary of travels in Persia in 1881 by a member of the Bengal Civil Service returning home after 8 years of service in India, in the company of one 'Sayyed Ali a native of Tehran'; including visits to Bushehr, Shiraz, Persepolis, Kerman, Yazd, Esfahan, Tehran, the Caspian region and to Russia. There are some interesting accounts of discussions with tribal leaders. The author also has a good eye for the countryside and there are some excellent descriptions" (Ghani, Cyrus: Iran and the West, p.349-50). Includes seven color folding maps. Octavo, two volumes. Original patterned teal cloth beveled bindings, with gilt and black stamping. Largely uncut. The small bookplate of Edna C. DeVoy appears on the verso of each front flyleaf.
