ARCHITECTONICS: The Tales of Tom Thumtack, Architect

New York: William T. Comstock, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. The first appearance of Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) illustrations in book form, preceding his work as Hogarth, Jr. While working for the architectural firm Ewing & Chappell, Kent was persuaded to illustrate a book his friend Frederick Squires had written. He quickly turned out eighty-five drawings, including the color frontispiece, and some decorative initials. Not wishing to be identified with such frivolous work, Kent left his drawings unsigned. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with pictorial gilt and orange stamping. Period bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Some light fading along the spine; else very good or better. Very good.
