THE WONDERS OF THE YOSEMITE VALLEY, AND OF CALIFORNIA

Boston: Alexander Moore, 1871. First Edition. Hardcover. Farquhar observed that "Kneeland took pains to get reliable information and present it with more than ordinary care. The photographic illustrations are excellent and include some unusual views," while Currey and Kruska note that Kneeland, a professor of zoology and physiology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "produced one of the better early guide books to the Yosemite Valley..." Illustrated with ten mounted albumen photographs credited to John P. Soule and a few textual engravings. Tall octavo. In a contemporary full blue morocco binding, with "Harleyford Manor" stamped in gilt on the front. Red ink ownership inscription, dated December 15, 1871, to the top edge of the title page. Small bit of foxing, largely to the prefatory leaves. Occasional minor edgewear to the boards; else very good. Currey and Kruska 225; Farquhar 10a. Very good. Item #66562
