SINISTER STREET: The Second Volume

London: Martin Secker, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. The second half of Mackenzie's lengthy bildungsroman. F. Scott Fitzgerald, among many others, was an admirer of this work and his first book, This Side of Paradise (1920), was written under the literary influence of Mackenzie. Presentation copy, inscribed by Mackenzie to novelist Rafael Sabatini on the title page: "For Rafael Sabatini from Compton Mackenzie, Martinmas 1914." It seems likely that this volume was inscribed in Sabatini's native country, as Mackenzie and his wife, Faith, resided at Villa Solitaria on Capri between 1913 and 1920. Octavo. Original red cloth binding, with gilt titles. The spine is a trifle sun faded; otherwise very good. Very good. Item #66255
