A stinging satirical novel concerning the filming of an unashamedly romantic and commercial musical about old Vienna, which counterpoints the tragic events on the world stage as Adolf Hitler's lengthening shadow falls over Austria during the 1930s. This copy is inscribed by Isherwood on the title page. Additionally signed by actor Roddy McDowall and accompanied by a program for The MET Theatre's Movies in Literature event on June 7, 1994 during which McDowall read from Prater Violet. 12mo. Original gray cloth binding, with lavender and cream stamping. Period previous owner's ink signature and date (1946) on the front flyleaf. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with a bit of light fading along the spine and some occasional mild edgewear; otherwise very good. Very good / Very good. Item #66189
