SMALL COLLECTION OF CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESSED TO A SOMERSET, PENNSYLVANIA FAN OF THE LOS ANGELES THRASH METAL BAND DARK ANGEL

Three of the four pieces are from drummer Gene Hoglan, who sat behind the kit for Dark Angel from 1984 to 1992, 2002 to 2005, and 2013 to present. The first, postmarked July 8, 1986, contains two flyers for the band’s landmark album Darkness Descends (1986), one with a holographic letter from Hoglan on the verso: “‘Darkness Descends’ is not too much like ‘W.H.A.’ It is MUCH faster, MUCH heavier, a lot more hardcore.”

The second, mailed a few days later, includes a Dark Angel sticker, a flyer for the band’s June 20, 1986 concert at The Troubadour with a holographic note from Hoglan on the verso, and another Darkness Descends flyer, this one inscribed on the verso by all five members of the band.

Postmarked August 12, 1986, the third includes information for Legions of Darkness, the band’s fan club and merchandising arm, and another Troubadour flyer, this one with a lengthy holographic letter by Hoglan in which he shares his thoughts on Ted Nugent (“We goof around with a few Uncle Ted tunes in practice.”) and Savatage (“...one of my favorite bands about 3 years ago. Then they got signed and REALLY wimped out!").

The final piece, dated July 7, 1986 and presumably mailed by the band’s fan club, is a single sheet listing Dark Angel’s July 1987 tour dates. The flyers have been folded for mailing. Some general edgewear and mild soiling to both the envelopes and contents; otherwise very good. Item #64959
