From the library of Indian American astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (1910-95), with his signature to top of the first two leaves (also, a postcard addressesed to Chandrasekhar's wife is laid in). Like Michelson, Chandrasekhar conducted his scientific work at the University of Chicago and in 1983, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics (shared with William Fowler) "for his theoretical studies of the physical processes of importance to the structure and evolution of the stars."
