Presentation copy, inscribed and dated in the year of publication on the front flyleaf by Bernard to Irma Wyckoff, who served as secretary to Maxwell Perkins at Charles Scribner's Sons. An account of the extraordinary pilgrimage to Tibet in search of adventure and spritual enlightenment. Bernard (1908-47) was already an ardent practitioner of hatha yoga but was eager to gain knowledge of the esoteric teachings within yoga. Upon his return to the United States, he identified himself as a White Lama and parlayed his experiences into a lecturing circuit, magazine interviews, and several publications, as well as a popular yoga practice. Illustrated with more than sixty pages of photographic illustrations. Octavo. Original black cloth binding, with a pictorial label on the front panel and gilt titles.
