TRADITIONS OF LONDON, HISTORICAL AND LEGENDARY

London: W. Kent & Co., 1859. First Edition. Hardcover. A collection of eight short stories, most concerned with crime and murder. One of the vexing mysteries of Victorian fiction, William Russell (1805-76) penned a variety of detective stories that were pirated in America and widely reprinted in Britain, often in cheap yellowback editions. From the library of Henry Jeffrey Flower, 6th Viscount Ashbrook, with a small bookplate featuring the family crest and his brief ink notations on the front pastedown. 12mo. In a one-half brown morocco over marbled paper binding, with a green morocco spine label, five raised bands, and decorative gilt stamping. The spine is very lightly sun faded; otherwise very good and quite lovely. Very good. Item #69925
